Fertility Awareness Instruction
I work with clients all over the US and beyond on an individual basis. Currently, all sessions are virtual due to COVID-19, and can be conducted by video chat or by phone.
Consultations can cover any topic related to Fertility Awareness, including:
- Deciding if Fertility Awareness is the right choice for you
- Using Fertility Awareness to prevent pregnancy
- Using Fertility Awareness to achieve pregnancy
- Using Fertility Awareness to gain insight into your health
- Managing fertility after giving birth
More details about working with me can be found below, in the Instruction FAQ.

Let’s get started!Instruction FAQ
Q: Do I need any background in Fertility Awareness before we start working together?
A: Having a base of knowledge before we meet will make our work more efficient (and cost-effective). I recommend that you read Taking Charge of Your Fertility , The Garden of Fertility , or The Complete Guide To Fertility Awareness. A basic class or workshop is also good preparation.
Q: How much does instruction with you cost?*
A: My hourly fee is $100 (US). Although the vast majority of consultations end up lasting between 60 and 90 minutes, I prefer not to set the length of the session in advance. I don’t want to charge you for a 90 minute session if you only need an hour, nor do I want to rush you to fit into an hour if 90 minutes would be more appropriate. As a social worker, I am experienced at setting goals for my sessions and meeting those goals in an efficient but thorough manner. (See next FAQ for more information on cost of instruction.)
Q: How many times will I/we need to meet with you and how long will the overall process take?
A: Everyone’s situation is unique, of course, but here are some general guidelines:
- If you are coming in with a basic knowledge of Fertility Awareness and your goal is to use FAM to prevent pregnancy, you can expect to meet with me 2 or 3 times over the course of 4 to 6 months. This protocol is designed to give you an extremely solid foundation for your practice so that you’ll be able to practice Fertility Awareness knowledgeably and effectively.
- The first session generally lasts about 90 minutes. We’ll go over relevant health issues and really focus in on how to observe and chart your fertility signs. We will also make sure that you have a birth control plan in place (if applicable) while you’re learning how to practice Fertility Awareness. After that, you’ll chart on your own, usually for two or three months.
- At the second meeting, which usually lasts about an hour, we’ll review your charts and see if you can correctly identify the fertile and infertile phases of your cycles. Most people will be ready to use FAM to avoid pregnancy, in a conservative way, after this second meeting.
- A third meeting, held 2 or 3 months later, is to address any remaining questions. After this meeting, most people are feeling pretty confident about their practice and are ready to fly solo!
- If your goal is to achieve pregnancy, we might meet one, two, or three times, depending on what happens. Nature is unpredictable that way.
- If you are meeting with me to manage your fertility after giving birth, ideally we would meet before you actually have your baby, around the start of the third trimester. My post-partum work tends to consist of multiple short sessions that take place over a period of months, related to how long it takes for your cycles to return. The post-partum period can be a very challenging time to practice Fertility Awareness and I want to make sure you feel supported and know what you’re doing so that you can enjoy whatever slim windows you happen to have available for intimacy!
Q: When and how can we meet up?
A: Most of my sessions are conducted virtually, via video chat. Some folks prefer to use the phone and that works, too. Virtual appointments are generally available on weekday evenings, with start times from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM Eastern (meaning my last appointment starts at 7:30 PM). On Wednesdays, appointments may be scheduled between 11 AM and 7 PM.
Q: If I live in the New York area, can I meet with you in person?
A: In person instruction has been suspended until further notice due to COVID-19.
Q: Can my partner or spouse attend with me?
A: Partners and spouses are welcome and encouraged to be part of the process. All genders and relationship types are honored!
Q: How do I share my charts with you?
A: If you are using an app, there is usually a chart sharing feature built in. I am a registered practitioner on Kindara. If you are charting on paper, I will create a shared folder for us (in Dropbox or Google Drive) where you can upload your charts. This way they will always be in one place where you can add to them at any time.
Q: How do I pay you?
A: Payment can be made by Paypal, Zelle, or Venmo.
Q: What if I need to change my appointment?
A: Stuff happens! But since I block out time for appointments, I ask that you give me at least 24 hours notice for cancellation. A fee of $25 will be charged for appointments cancelled with insufficient notice.

*Reduced fees are available to those who need them, on a limited basis. If the cost of my instruction is prohibitive for you, please indicate that on your contact form and I’ll do my best to work with you.
